A quote from Pop-Up Exterminator's site:
The Pop-Up Exterminator prevents those pesky pop-up windows from appearing while you're surfing the web. Pop-up windows are quickly closed and don't have a chance to display their contents. The Pop-Up Exterminator can be temporarily disabled by holding down the CTRL key while a pop-up window appears.
The Pop-Up Exterminator is very intelligent and customizable. By default, it closes all pop-up windows. This default behaviour can be overwritten. It also allows the user to setup rules that are applied to pop-up windows. Some rules can be used to allow or prevent all pop-up windows while visiting specific web sites or URL's. Other rules can be setup to allow or prevent popup windows that start with a specific URL while visiting any web site.
The Pop-Up Exterminator provides audio and visual alerts to notify the user when a pop-up window has been closed. Three sound files are included, but any .WAV file can be used as an audio alert.
The Pop-Up Exterminator allows Internet Explorer to be further customized. This allows the user to override certain behaviours such as full screen and theater modes. The user can also make sure certain toolbars are always visible. This settings apply to all Internet Explorer windows, not just pop-up ones.
My notes:
Attention!
Without your permission Pop-Up Exterminator installs WhenUSearch ToolbarBar, ClockSync and and Save software on your computer.
Attention!!!
Moreover when you uninstall Pop-Up Exterminator they remain on your computer!
You should uninstall them from Control Panel.
When you uninstall WhenUSearch it fights back and you should 3 or 4 times
confirm that you REALLY want to uninstall this annoying unrequested program.
Spyware Enciclopedia classified them as adware and Search Hijacker:
Toolbar: A group of buttons which perform common tasks. A toolbar for Internet Explorer is nomally located below the menu bar at the top of the form. Toolbars may be created by Browser Helper Objects.
Search Hijacker: Any software that resets your browser's settings to point to other sites when you perform a search. Hijacks may reroute your info and address requests through an unseen site, capturing that info. In such hijacks, your browser may behave normally, but be slower. Search results when such a hijacker is running will sometimes differ from non-hijacked results.
